Using FTP

On the Internet, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standardized method for sending files between two computers. MailMax Direct and MailMax Printing offer FTP transfers to clients as a fast and reliable alternative to web-based uploads and sending data on traditional media. Using FTP, you can send your project data files of any size or type, with speed and reliability.

To take advantage of FTP, you must have an Internet connection, FTP client software and request an FTP account with your CSR. Use the following settings with your FTP software:

     FTP Server (hostname): ftp.mailmaxdirect.com
             or ftp.mailmaxprinting.com
     Port: 21
Username: [enter username assigned by CSR]
Password: [enter password assigned by CSR]
If you are unfamiliar with FTP, or do not already have an FTP program installed, you can follow these set-by-step instructions:
  1. Download the FileZilla FTP Client from http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ or from our server. Run the installer and choose the options that best meet your needs, or use the defaults. An icon should appear on your desktop or in your start menu.

  2. Run FileZilla. Click Edit/Settings, select Connection, then Firewall settings. Check the box next to "Passive Mode" and click "Ok".

  3. Click File/Site Manager. Click "New Site", give it a name such as "MailMax". Then enter the following information:
         Host: ftp.mailmaxdirect.com
                 or ftp.mailmaxprinting.com
         Port: 21
         Logontype: Normal
User: [enter username assigned by CSR]
Password: [enter password assigned by CSR]

Then click "Save and Exit". This will save your connection settings for next time. From now on, you can open FileZilla and proceed directly to connection.

  4. To connect, either select File/Site Manager then connect manually, or use the drop-down button next to the first button on the tool bar to automatically select and connect. Once connected, your folder at MailMax will appear on the right, your local folders/drives will appear on the left. You can navigate to your own folder on the left, then drag files and folders to the right to upload them, or simply drag any file or folder from your computer to the right pane and they will be uploaded. To disconnect, simply close FileZilla or select File/Disconnect.

Tip: To reduce the amount of time it takes to transfer your files, use an archiver to package and compress your files into one file. When sending files to MailMax Direct or MailMax Printing please use either the ZIP format, the GZ format, or the 7Z format. For a list of archiving programs, please see below.
